Tucker Carlson, Putin, Tolstoy and the war in Ukraine
If you are sure the West is right think again.
To understand Vladimir Putin's position, it is necessary to remember the story "A just judge", by Leo Tolstoy.
This story is short and yet it suggests very deep questions about both the nature of justice and the activity of the judge. What is fair? The predominance of the strongest or the weakest (merchant vs. cripple), protecting the ignorant or the educated man (scholar vs. peasant), the victory of the best argument (the money dispute between two sellers of different products)?
What is fair cannot depend on ideological preferences, because in this case the decision would be preconceived, eventually enabling the victory of those who acted wrongly and do not admit their own malice before the judge. The story suggests that the solution of any case must always be based on factual evidence without any preconceived consideration about those involved in a conflict.
A fair judge is the one who observes the evidence of the facts, calmly reflects on the case and does not allow himself to be influenced by the personal conditions of the people being judged. The key to understanding and admiring the decisions made by Tolstoy'scharacter is given at the end.
When he discovers that the merchant competing for the horse is actually the king of the country, the judge refuses to obtain any personal advantage due to his work. Only those who judge themselves adequately are in a position to judge well other people's disputes.
Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of American and European leaders are very ambitious and dishonest and put the interests of their countries' weapons manufacturers above world stability and peace with Russia. It is not possible or fair to foment and finance a war and say that the other party is totally wrong.
As in Tolstoy's short stor, the adequate distribution of justice aims, as much as possible, to enable coexistence in a conflictual society without those who act wrong always having an advantage due to their position, education, strength or wealth. Every personal, political and military dispute needs to be resolved fairly.
Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, Western governments have known that Russia would not and could not accept NATO's expansion to its borders. And yet NATO expanded almost to the Russian border. For more than a decade, the Kremlin has said that it would not accept Ukraine into NATO and yet Americans and Europeans insisted on making that country a member of NATO (and NATO is supplying the weapons now used in the war against Russia).
Don't Russians have the right to defend themselves against what they perceive to be a real threat to their country? Of course they do, but this is simply ignored by unjust judges who want to judge Russia unfairly while not being able to fairly judge the actions of their own rulers who sacrifice the Ukrainian people to keep Western weapons factories producing weapons of war and making a profit.
In fact, the injustice becomes more evident when we take into account the way in which these same Western judges who foment the war are judging journalist Tucker Carlson. Despite doing what a journalist is supposed to do when interviewing Putin, Carlson is being accused of treason and risks being silenced and punished in the same way as Julian Assange. This is fair? Of course not. This only proves that hatred and the desire to perpetuate a war that could have already been ended has completely corrupted the hearts and minds of American and European leaders. They are bombing Yemen now. Do they believe they can bomb Russia too? This is insane.
Come on guys... If you really want to judge Russia fairly, listen to Putin's words calmly, leave the journalist alone, be a little stricter with Western leaders and learn something by reading Tolstoy's short story .
