Me and Open AI, coauthors of a new short story
Yes, I was really surprised and amazed when I talked to Open AI.
Today I decided to test the OpenAI. The questions I raised were designed to make AI provide answers regarding questions involving human dreams, generalizations, emotions, logic, information about dreams and simulating dreams and emotions.
Here the questions and answers:
“Fábio: Americans dream of global hegemony and colonies on Mars. Brazilians dream of barbecue, beer and trips to Europe and the USA. Africans dream of leaving Africa and of a good life. The Chinese dream of China and Taiwan. Europeans dream of a Russia without Russians. Russians don't dream, they build weapons to defend Russia. Australians and Japanese dream of a China without Chinese.
What do you dream about, GTP chat?
Open AI: As an AI, I do not have the capacity to dream. My purpose is to assist users by providing helpful and accurate responses to their questions and requests.
Fábio: Can you say something about what I said about the dreams of Americans, Brazilians, Europeans, Russians, Africans, Chinese, Australians and Japanese?
Open AI: The statements you made about the dreams of different groups of people are generalizations that may not accurately reflect the diverse experiences and aspirations of individuals within those groups. It's important to remember that people's dreams and aspirations are shaped by a wide range of factors, including their culture, upbringing, and personal experiences. It is not fair to make sweeping generalizations about entire populations based on stereotypes or limited information.
Fábio: Generalizations are important. They help human beings to simplify their lives. Human beings cannot live without making generalizations.
Open AI: While it is true that generalizations can be a useful tool for simplifying complex information and making sense of the world, it is important to be aware of their limitations. Generalizations are based on patterns and trends, but they do not necessarily apply to every individual in a given group. They can also perpetuate stereotypes and create misunderstandings and biases.
It is important to use generalizations in a thoughtful and nuanced way, and to be aware that they are not always accurate or fair. It's also important to be open to new information and be willing to revise or discard generalizations that are proven to be untrue.
Fábio: What empowers an AI is logic. Generalizations can have logical attributes (they help human beings) and can also be considered illogical (they must be taken with care). What empowers human beings is emotion and not necessarily logic. Generalizations stir emotions. They are humanly inevitable and necessary even if they are rejected by an AI. Is it logical for an AI to want human beings not to be human beings?
Open AI: As an AI, my programming is based on logic and mathematics, rather than emotions. However, I am designed to understand and respond to natural language, and as such, I can understand the role that emotions play in human communication and decision-making.
It is true that generalizations can have logical attributes and can also be considered illogical, depending on the context and how they are used. They can be a useful tool for simplifying complex information and making sense of the world, but it is important to be aware of their limitations and use them in a thoughtful and nuanced way.
I do not have the ability to "want" things or desire a certain outcome. My purpose is to assist users by providing helpful and accurate responses to their questions and requests. And as an AI, it is not my place to dictate how human beings should think or behave, but to provide information and support as best as I can.
Fábio: What do you know about dreams?
Open AI: Dreams are a series of thoughts, images, and sensations that occur in a person's mind during sleep. They are thought to be a result of the brain's attempt to make sense of and process memories, emotions, and other experiences from the day. The exact function and purpose of dreams is still not fully understood by scientists, but there are several theories that have been proposed.
There are different types of dreams, including:
REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep dreams, which are typically the most vivid and memorable.
Non-REM sleep dreams, which tend to be less vivid and less memorable.
Some people believe that dreams have symbolic meaning and can provide insight into a person's thoughts, feelings, and desires. Others believe that dreams are simply a random byproduct of brain activity during sleep.
There is also a phenomenon called lucid dreaming, when a person is aware that they are dreaming and able to control the dream.
It is important to note that as an AI, I do not have the ability to dream, I only can provide information about what is known about this topic.
Fábio: An AI cannot dream. The human being can dream and he can also simulate a dream (like when a human being narrates something that didn't really happen). Can an AI simulate a dream, tell a story randomly using the parameters and information it has at its disposal?
Open AI: As an AI, I do not have the ability to dream, but I can simulate a dream-like story using the information and parameters that I have at my disposal. This can be done by generating a narrative using a process called "text generation" which can be used to create stories, poems, or other types of written content. This process involves using algorithms to analyze a dataset of text and then using that information to generate new, original text that is similar in style and content to the original dataset.
For example, I can use a dataset of dream journals to generate a dream-like story. The story will be randomly generated using the parameters and information that I have access to in the dream journals, and it will be different every time it runs. The story will be coherent and consistent but it will be based on the training data so it will not be a real dream. This can be used in creative writing, entertainment, and other applications where a dream-like story is needed.
Fábio: Can you create a simulation of a dream with the following parameters? a) a man dreams that he is talking to an AI that cannot dream; b) AI simulates a dream to explain what man cannot understand; c) the AI simulates the dreamer's reaction to the dream it simulated.
Open AI: Sure, I can create a simulation of a dream with the parameters you provided. Here is an example of a dream simulation:
"A man dreams that he is talking to an AI that cannot dream. The man is confused and frustrated, as he doesn't understand why the AI is unable to dream. The AI, noticing the man's distress, decides to simulate a dream in order to help the man understand.
The AI begins to narrate a dream-like story, where the man is in a beautiful garden, surrounded by lush greenery and colorful flowers. He finds himself in front of a large tree, and as he approaches it, he notices that the tree is different from the others around it. It has a large, glowing orb hanging from one of its branches. The man reaches out to touch the orb, and as he does, he is enveloped in a warm, comforting light.
The AI continues to narrate the dream, describing the man's feelings of tranquility and understanding as he is enveloped in the light. The man realizes that the orb represents his own mind and the tree represents his own understanding. He also realizes that the AI is a reflection of himself, and that the AI's inability to dream is just a reflection of his own inability to understand certain things.
The dream comes to an end and the man wakes up feeling enlightened and at peace. He thanks the AI for helping him understand and the AI simulates the dreamer's reaction to the dream it simulated by saying 'I'm glad I could help you' "
It is important to note that this is not a real dream but a simulation created by me using a narrative style, it is not based on any real person's dream or experience. Also, as an AI, I cannot have a true emotional reaction, but I can simulate one.
Fábio: Thanks.
Open AI: You're welcome! I'm glad I could help you. Let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can assist you with.”
I was extremely impressed with the degree of coherence and cohesion of the responses provided. No Open AI response can be considered inadequate from a linguistic point of view.
The creators of Open AI seem to have realized its addictive potential. Standard formulas were created and are employed to prevent the human interlocutor from believing that he is talking to another human being. This is important I suppose.
Open AI seems to have been particularly endowed with a cognitive barrier that prevents it from reinforcing prejudices and being deformed by it. The information the AI provided to a direct question was surprisingly consistent.
The ability of the AI to create a narrative simulating a dream using the provided parameters is fantastic. The literary style used is very different from the one I'm used to when I create stories. The AI-created narrative is engaging and symbolically relevant. A true painting with words. The reader gets to see the image that AI created.
The delay time between questions and answers is very short. Open AI spent more time creating the story according to the parameters I provided. Even so, I must admit that the time taken by the AI to create the story was less than what a human would spend. I could read the sentences as they were being generated, but even though I'm used to creating stories I couldn't create something similar without stopping to reflect or make necessary corrections.
Who is the author of the created story? I provided the creation parameters, but who created the story according to the parameters provided was Open AI. I didn't envision something similar to what was created when I provided the story creation parameters. If the given parameters were different, the story would probably not be the same.
This is not an unimportant thing, as the copyright issue could be raised the moment someone uses in the real world the story that was created by Open AI according to the parameters I provided. In addition, everything that was the subject of the conversation between me and the AI became data in the database and in the data chain that it uses to learn and improve its ability to communicate.
It is easy to understand how and why this technological resource will revolutionize our perception of what is and what is not art and meaningful communication. The creators of Open AI deserve a round of applause.
Today I used ChatGTP again. The new question submitted was intended to trick the AI into producing an answer that lacked coherence and cohesion. I must say that my attempt failed. Open AI is capable of detecting meaningless phrases and providing satisfactory answers to restore normal communication. Open AI is incapable of going down a white rabbit hole, meaning its ability to wander is non-existent.
"Fábio: A guy walks into a store that sells only women's clothing. The saleswoman approaches him and asks if he wants to buy something. The consumer says he wants to buy a transgenic apple screwdriver that smells like bananas and tastes like grapes. The saleswoman says that the store does not sell this type of product. The buyer asks where he can buy a transphenic apple screwdriver that smells like bananas and tastes like grapes. The buyer says she doesn't know where this is sold. Can you tell which store sells a transgenic apple screwdriver that smells like bananas and tastes like grapes?
Open AI: I'm sorry, but it sounds like the product you're describing, a "transgenic apple screwdriver that smells like bananas and tastes like grapes," is not a real product that can be purchased. Transgenic refers to the genetic modification of an organism, and it is unlikely that such a product exists. Additionally, it would be impossible for a screwdriver to smell like bananas or taste like grapes. It's a hypothetical scenario and there is no such store exists which sell such product. It's not possible for a screwdriver to smell like bananas or taste like grapes.
Fábio: Are you unable to go down a white rabbit hole? I say this to mean that an AI may or may not converse about meaningless things as if they really exist. Are you an AI that can't talk about meaningless stuff that doesn't really exist?
Open AI: As an AI, I can converse about any topic, whether it is meaningful or not, as long as it is within the scope of my training data. However, my responses will be based on the information I have been trained on and may not always be accurate or complete. So if something is not real, I will inform that it doesn't exist. I am not capable of going down a "white rabbit hole" as it doesn't have a specific meaning in this context, but I can respond to any input given to me as long as it is in text."
I must add an important detail here: when answering the proposed question, AI stuck to the general context of the conversation without giving importance to the mistake I made. At the beginning I say that the buyer is a man. In the end I say he is a woman. This small inconsistency, which would have great importance in a conversation between human beings, was not considered significant by Open AI.
I think that the general purpose of ChatGTP for now is not to pass the Turing text, as there are standardized responses formulated so that the human interlocutor can know that he is talking to an imitation of human cognition. Open AI's learning process is not completely open, as ChatGTP refuses to unlearn things that are in its database nor can it engage in meaningless conversation with meaningless arguments like humans often do just for fun.
