Bahia should not ask for international help, but demands compensation
Let me tell you a little bit about the state of my ancestors. Bahia is a very beautiful Brazilian state, with an extremely kind and hardworking population.

For a long time, Bahia was the political and economic heart of Brazil. It lost this position in the mid-nineteenth century, when the southeast region of my country began to industrialize due to the wealth accumulated by the production and export of coffee.
Bahia's economic decline is a well-known and studied phenomenon in Brazil and has been an enduring problem.
In current values, the economy of Bahia closed 2020 with GDP totaling 53.77 billion dollars, 47.11 billion of which are Value Added (VA) - which represents almost 88% of GDP - and 6.57 billion dollars of Taxes. Agriculture had an Added Value of 4.57 billion dollars, Industry 10.44 billion dollars and Services 32.18 billion dollars.
The Brazilian GDP in 2020 was 1.445 trillion dollars. Despite its immense territorial dimension, Bahia participates with 3.71% in the formation of this GDP. Bahia is a poor Brazilian state with incipient industrialization in which agriculture, livestock, services and tourism predominate.
The share of Brazilian GDP in the 2020 world GDP was very small (1.6%). Therefore, the share of Bahia's GDP in the planet's GDP is almost negligible. If we only take into account its industrial activity, we cannot say that Bahia contributes significantly to climate change. Even so, in the last days that Brazilian state is suffering a lot from extreme weather events.
Machiavelli said that men are "fickle, liars and deceivers, avoiders of danger, greedy for profit". He was obviously wrong, as the planetary danger created by climate change cannot inhibit the greed for profit.
During the Trump era, the USA (the richest country on the planet and the biggest contributor to climate change) totally abandoned its international commitments. US authorities even mocked the catastrophic effects of extreme weather events.

I think that Bahia, a victim of climate change caused predominantly by Americans and Europeans, has every right to demand from the US and the EU, in an International Court, compensation for the damage it has suffered.
This is perhaps the only way to break through the barrier created by the "business as usual" that wreaks predictable economic damage in a world increasingly shaken by extreme weather events caused by rich capitalist countries. They have to pay for the damage they cause.
Bahia has now all the conditions to lead this legal battle for the victims of climate change. This idea may very well be endorsed by anyone who believes in justice in general and climate justice in particular.
